A Lot To Think About.

This is Sarah and I seriously trying to figure out which house we want. We made a list of pros and cons to help with our decision. We also used Mary Shelsby's mortgage calculator (on her website) to figure out potential monthly mortgage costs.

Here are our three favorites and a list of pros and cons.

1. The Quaint '70s.

Advantages: Roomy two car garage, big fenced in back yard, poured concrete foundation, big nice basement, decent heating and water furnace, good electricity, nice overall layout of the house, potential for future additions (when we have our 3 children) :), nice and quiet setting, close to our church, and lastly an odd advantage is its need for complete redecoration. This is something Sarah and I would enjoy.

Disadvantages: Higher taxes, farthest from work, a little small, needs a new roof.

2. The Short Shower House:

Advantages: Closest to work, beautifully laid out downstairs, nice neighborhood, solid foundation, good electricity, nice porches, we know some people in the neighborhood, good furnace and water heater, good roof, and nice bay windows in dining room and master bedroom.

Disadvantages: Very small upstairs, no potential for future additions, smallest backyard of the three, high taxes, no garage, and we would have to redo the bathroom so we don't break our necks showering.

3. Sarah's Favorite:

Advantages: Room for 3 children, nice neighborhood, big backyard, pool, largest bedrooms, best kitchen, good roof, good foundation, (from what we know so far) good electricity and plumbing, good furnace, good water heater, lowest taxes, lots of porches, close to church, 2 full bathrooms, first floor laundry, a single garage, we know some people in the neighborhood, and it's overall the biggest and nicest house.

Disadvantages: Eric is not sure he likes the lay out, the basement is smaller than Eric would like (he grew up playing floor hockey in a massive basement and he hoped to do it with his kids)

If you actually made it through all that, please leave us your comments as to which house you would choose. We'd love to know....

Hi, I was just surfing and found your site! Like what you have done. If you are interested, go see my bad credit mortgage related site. You may find some useful tips there.

Maybe you need to keep searching until you find a house that both are sure of.

Let me see them, since I am your brother. Based on what I see, "Sarah's Favorite" looks best so far. When are you guys heading out with Dad?

Go with "Sarah's Favorite", electricity can be fixed, we never use our finished basement, everything else is great for a family, you won't regret it.

Fo with your gut /heart /intuition. Yes - do the pros and cons list...but which house do you love? It is also an emotional decision - if you can be calm and settled and not panic'ky' or stressed - you emotions can be a powerful tool to guide you. If you truly do not love any of the properties, and just cannot make a decision on which of the three - then my advice is ....don't decide. The best solution will present itself with patience and persistance. Wait. The right house will come to you...

I think you should forget the short shower house unless you are short. Even if you are short, it might be hard to sell it later, since only short people would buy it.

Of the houses listed, I'd go for Sarah's favorite. But whoever said go with your intuition, find the house you love, and the person who said to keep searching till you find a house you both are sure of--they are very wise people. I'd keep Sarah's favorite as your top choice but keep searching for something that jumps out to both of you. I love you both!!!

Hi Eric and Sarah,
I think it is good that you put in an offer on "Sarah's Favorite". It shows you are serious to the owners. I also agree with the comment that said you should continue to look. After all, if someone makes an offer at the open house, you may have to increase you offer. That's when you really need to be sure you want this one. From the pictures, I'd say it's a great house. Just to be certain, look at a few more. You'd be surprised how you keep levitating back to the one you truly want. :) I've enjoyed participating in your search. How about posting some pics of "Moving Day"?
Hi to Mary too. It's Connie, Mary. :)
